Lucky Penny by L.A. Cotton | RELEASE BLITZ + GIVEAWAY

Title: Lucky Penny
Author: L.A. Cotton
Genre: Contemporary Romance
 Release Date: November 30, 2015

I was his lucky Penny. He was my light in the dark, hope in despair. Our bond was one of survival, friendship... first love.

But then we were ripped apart and Blake Weston became the memory I turned to when everything else in my life fell apart.

Seven years later, a summer working at Camp Chance is supposed to be my fresh start. Beautiful scenery and the chance to better the lives of foster children--kids like me. But when my eyes land on him across the fire, time stands still and feelings come rushing back to the surface. I thought I'd moved on, tucked him away in my heart. One look into his soulful blue eyes and I know I'm wrong. Blake Weston can heal the broken parts of me. Restore my hope. Love me.

It's our second chance. A sign we are supposed to be together.

Isn't it?

I was twelve when I survived the accident that killed my parents. Fourteen when I survived the devil. And sixteen, when I survived a heartbreak of the worst kind.

But in my twenty-three years, Blake Weston might just be the first thing I won't survive.

Marissa didn’t follow me. It was most likely she had pieced together our story after Blake’s song. How could she not? It was as if he had weaved our entire relationship into his lyrics. I could feel his sixteen-year-old self singing every line to my sixteen-year-old self. Although, I was pretty certain the sixteen-year-old Blake I’d known then had no clue how to play the guitar.

After washing the tearstains from my face, I brushed my teeth. It was still early, but I couldn’t face going back out there, so I changed into my shorts and tank top and climbed into bed. Sleep would be impossible, but at least here, I was safe.

Most people felt lonely in solitude, but I welcomed the silence. I embraced it even. Something about the quiet, the knowledge no one else was around, comforted me. I knew it made me different. I didn’t need a shrink to tell me that, but it didn’t change the fact that I found sanctuary in being alone.

I lay there not really allowing myself to think. Thinking was dangerous; it led to remembering, and my memories were stained with pain and hurt and the kinds of things that made most people’s nightmares look like a walk in the park. Instead, I tracked the uneven cabin ceiling. My eyes followed the planes of the wood from one end to the other and back again until they grew heavy.

A knock on the door startled me sending my already restless heart into overdrive and I rubbed at my eyes.

“Hello?” I called out hoping to hear Marissa’s voice, but I knew it wasn’t her. She wouldn’t have knocked; she would have barged right in and demanded answers.

“Penny, it’s me.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, but my mind betrayed me as an image of Blake’s face filled my head.

Another knock.

Forcing myself to sit up, I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. He wasn’t going away. Blake—our connection—was something I was going to have to deal with sooner or later, and from Blake’s admissions over the last few days, it seemed that he was making the decision for me.

My legs were like lead as I walked to the door. It swung open and Blake stood there looking at me with such reverence in his eyes I almost crumpled. Maybe I did crumple because, before my head had time to process what was happening, I was in Blake’s arms, and he was holding on to me like he needed me to breathe.

“I’ve missed you so much. I’ve tried to stay away, to give you space, but I can’t. I can’t spend another day feeling like you might slip through my fingers again.”

One of Blake’s hands buried itself in my hair and cradled my head holding me to him. My face pressed up against the collar of his hoodie, and I breathed him in. He smelled familiar, like damp grass and fresh air, of a time when things were less complicated, and my heart ached for us. At that moment, we weren’t two strangers reunited by chance; we were sixteen-year-old Blake and Penny.

And we needed each other to survive.

I thought I’d left Blackwater, Texas behind for good. I didn’t belong in the small town, but my dad wouldn’t listen. He dragged me back home in his beat-up truck and dropped a bomb along the way: Chase Matthews was moving in with us. He was the golden boy of my high school, my former best friend, and the last person I wanted sleeping across the hall. His presence was too great a reminder of the ghosts I was trying to forget.
I didn’t ask for a hero. I don’t want to be saved.
To me, Lilah Calloway meant late nights sneakin’ out, moonlit hair, and sparklers in July. She was my best friend until the day she left and I’d assumed Blackwater had seen the last of her. Then, like a tempest, she rolled back into town for the final half of senior year. The chopped hair and dark devil-may-care attitude warned most people away, but I knew if I fought hard enough, I could find the lost girl.
I didn’t want to be her hero. Some girls don’t need to be saved.
I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things... everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Looking at her, getting to know her, I know she's the one for me—but she's so young. Her life is just starting and I've already done my fair share of living. I want her to be mine but is it right for me to ask her to settle down before she's really had a chance to live?

He keeps watching me. I can't help but look back. He's gorgeous: tall, messy dark hair, and those intensely blue eyes captivating me. My life hasn't been easy by any means. Because of that I've had to grow up much faster than normal women do. I think that's why our age difference doesn't bother me at all. I wish it didn't bother him because this attraction isn't going away anytime soon and, in truth, I don't want it to. Unwrap Me: A Stark Ever After Novella by J. Kenner | BOOK REVIEW

Unwrap Me (Stark Trilogy, #3.9)Unwrap Me by J. Kenner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Buy Unwrap Me (Kindle)

"Damien Stark is my greatest Christmas wish come true. Immensely powerful and devastatingly sexy, he can undo me with the slightest touch, and with just one glance, he can see straight into my soul.

We both have dark secrets, twisted pieces of our pasts that only the other one understands. Though our fierce love and passion keeps me alive, sometimes I wonder what would've happened if Damien and I hadn't met in exactly the way we did.

How would my life have been different? Would another man have laid claim to my body and my heart? Or were Damien and I destined to be together no matter the cost?"

My Thoughts

Give me any book with Damien and Nikki Stark and I will blindly read it. I, personally, love how J. Kenner keeps feeding my Damien obsession with these short stories. The moment I find that there is new one going to put I just reach an all new state of bliss. No kidding!

Unwrap Me is yet another great novella by J. Kenner. She provides us stories with enough drama to keep you engaged till the last page is turned and of course, plenty of hot sexy encounters.

Looking back and comparing it to the other novellas of this Series , this time Kenner has changed it.

The blurb says:

I wonder what would've happened if Damien and I hadn't met in exactly the way we did. How would my life have been different? Would another man have laid claim to my body and my heart? Or were Damien and I destined to be together no matter the cost?

I can only say this... I sure as hell, did not expect what Kenner presented! It was so different and you will have to read what I'm talking about because I can't explain anything without giving you THE spoiler!

If you like me love Damien and Nikki then you will not be disappointed. No matter how short these novellas are, Kenner manages to make me fall in love with Damien all over again.

I highly recommend Unwrap Me for all Damien and Nikki lovers. If you haven't read this series then I highly recommend you to read it NOW!!! You will sure as hell become addicted to them.

I just can't wait to read more Damien and Nikki novellas.

Something About Lorelei by Sandi Lynn | BOOK REVIEW

Something About LoreleiSomething About Lorelei by Sandi Lynn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Buy Something About Lorelei (Kindle)

"My name is Jack Sutton, CEO of Sutton Fashion Magazine.
I had the world at my fingertips: A successful career, loads of money, and beautiful women who were always at my beck and call. My problem? I lived under the shadow of my mother, who started the company over thirty years ago. Not to mention her being married and divorced six times, which left a bad taste in my mouth as far as relationships were concerned.

“Women to me were nothing but mere toys. They were meant to be played with for my own personal pleasure and, when I was done playing, they’d get tossed to the side.”

Then, in walked Lorelei Flynn. She was beautiful and so wrong for me. The problem? She was my personal assistant and she was closed off, to say the least. Despite being the beautiful woman she was, I had an overwhelming need to find out what was underneath all that surface beauty. It was something I couldn’t explain. There was just something about Lorelei.

My name is Lorelei Flynn.

I was Jack Sutton’s fifteenth personal assistant in a little over a year. My boyfriend was killed seven years ago in a car accident. Before he died, he gave me a gift: my daughter Hope. My life only revolved around her. I didn’t date and I hadn’t had sex in seven years. Then Jack Sutton came into my life and he was as sexy as sin, but he was nothing but a womanizer and my boss. The line was drawn the day I took the job, and it was one that couldn’t be crossed. Or shouldn’t be crossed. But it was crossed, and now the only world I’d known was suddenly changing and it scared the hell out of me.
My Thoughts

Sandi Lynn is my go-to author when I want to read something cute and quick about love, family, an alpha male and a reluctant heroine. All her books are the same. Same pattern nothing major and life-changing happens and it is this very characteristic that pulls me to her books because sometimes I just want to read something that is fluff and even if there is a angst, it is so minimal, the love, fluff and comical moments over power it.

Something About Lorelei is exactly that. In this book we have Jack Sutton, CEO of Sutton Magazine. He is a player, downright rude and brash, doesn't understand the concept of personal boundaries, hates kids and thinks women as disposable and only meant to spend one night with him.

Lorelei Flynn, due to a tragedy at the age of 18, is a single mother to a 7 year old girl Hope, who I might say is downright polite and adorable. Lorelei raises Hope all by herself with the help of her mother and best friend Stella.

Hope. God! She is just so dang cute! She is one little meddler. She wants her mother to date and she comes up with the most amazing and comic dinner conversations!

"Why don't you date?"
"Why are you asking me that?"
"I don't know. Addison's mom started seeing someone and Addison really likes him. I just want you to know that I wouldn't mind if you started seeing someone."
"I haven't met anyone worth dating, I guess."
"I don't think you try."
"That's because you're all I need."
"Maybe you should try a dating site. That's where Addison's mom met her boyfriend."

A complete gem, isn't she? Lol.

This book has some really amazing comical moments that left me laughing so hard. For example, on the first day as Jack's PA, she is sent to the supermarket by Jack to buy condoms for her. Yeah, so read it. He sent her to buy condoms and well here it is, the deep deliberation of what he would have wanted:

"Okay, so does he want it thin, sensitive or maybe stronger? Textured or non textured? Was he a freak and into colored condoms? Desensitizing condoms? Lubed or non-lubed? Fuck if I knew. Damn him for making me do this. I grabbed the ultra-ribbed Ecstasy one and took the box up to the counter."

A little tragedy leaves Lorelei in a hospital and Jack is left to tend to Hope and that situation on itself was so hilarious! Here are a few snippets to let you know, how comical that was:

"Do you know how to read?
"I'm seven. Of course I can read." She shook her head as she looked at me. I couldn't help but smile, because at that moment, she reminded me so much of Lorelei. She set down her her menu and looked at me me. "I can't read this menu. The words are too big."

"We're going to be late."
"No we aren't."
"Yes, we are."
"Hope, we won't be late." We were late.

"You are one special little girl. How would you like to go ti Disney World?"
"Are you being serious Jack? Because it's not nice to play with a girl's emotions"

I just loved Jack and Hope together!

Sandi writes about characters that are real with real problems. Their problems are what anyone faces on a normal day. There is nothing over the top. There is enough scope as well for the characters to grow.

You will laugh and you will want to kick Jack's ass (Oooo it rhymes!) and possibly claw his pretty face but you will also like him. You will love Lorelei, her strength, her tenacity, her need to fight and be independent is something that will attract you. And of course. You will most definitely, without a doubt LOVE LOVE LOVE Hope!

Michael Brouchard has staged the congratulatory dinner she never had, the one her father effectively canceled a year before when he stormed out of the house in a rage. As if the balloons weren’t enough, there’s a bottle of champagne chilling in an ice bucket next to the table. Laney hesitates behind her empty chair, grasping the back of it with one sweaty hand. She reads the champagne bottle’s label in the flickering candlelight. It’s VeuveClicquot, the vintage, her first year of high school.
They’ve only had one conversation that’s lasted longer than a few minutes, and already Michael has filled a gap in her life. Not only that, he recognized it was there in the first place, that it was pulling at the fabric of her self-worth more than she wanted to admit. She knew tonight would be full of seductive risks, but didn’t expect to start here, with an overwhelming sense of having been seen and heard and valued.
He gestures to her empty chair, waits for her to take her seat before taking his own. Only once she’s seated does she realize Michael had extended his hand toward hers and she’d been too distracted by the balloons and the champagne to notice. Now there’s no going back to rectify her rudeness without sounding like a sputtering idiot. The host, who has stood by politely throughout her hesitation, hands her a menu and departs. She’s folding her napkin across her lap when she sees a large envelope resting against the edge of her plate, as large as a wedding invite. Her name is written on the outside in precise, draftsman-like handwriting. Just her first name. Not her last name. And not Miss Foley, which they both agreed he wouldn’t call her anymore.
Her hands shake as she tears open the envelope, as she unfolds the piece of heavy sketch paper inside of it. The breath goes out of her when she finds herself staring down at the amazingly detailed pencil sketch of—me. That’s me. That’s me holding a rosein one hand while more rose petals shower down all sides of me. Roses for the Rose Scholarship. Oh, my God. He drew me.
The card seems to waver suddenly. She’s blinking back tears.
She can’t remember the last time anyone has been this thoughtful, this kind. She’s never thought of herself as a victim of abuse. But what do you call an entire lifetime of having your own intelligence, your own competence used against you, an entire lifetime of everyone from your parents to your friends thinking they don’t really have to show up for you because you do such a good job of showing up for yourself?
Sometimes you don’t know you’ve got a shell around your heart until it cracks.
Get it together, Laney. Get it—
“Laney…are you all right?” Michael asks.
A sane and reasonable answer is right on the tip of her tongue.

In a standalone novella that combines the worlds of THE FLAME and his novel, THE SURRENDER GATE, New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice returns you to a mysterious candle shop in the New Orleans French Quarter where the scents of passion provide the courage to embrace your heart';s desire.

Are some risks worth taking?

Laney Foley is the first woman from her hard working family to attend college. That';s why she can';t act on her powerful attraction to one of the gorgeous teaching assistants in her Introduction to Art History course. Getting involved with a man who has control over her final grade is just too risky. But ever since he first laid eyes on her, Michael Brouchard seems to think about little else but the two of them together. And it';s become harder for Laney to ignore his intelligence and his charm.

During a walk through the French Quarter, an intoxicating scent that reminds Laney of her not-so-secret admirer draws her into an elegant scented candle shop. The shop';s charming and mysterious owner seems to have stepped out of another time, and he offers Laney a gift that could break down the walls of her fear in a way that can only be described as magic. But will she accept it?

Light this flame at the scene of your greatest passion and all your desires will be yours...

Lilliane Williams is a radiant, a supernatural being with the power to make your deepest sexual fantasy take shape around you with just a gentle press of her lips to yours. But her gifts came at a price. Decades ago, she set foot inside what she thought was an ordinary scented candle shop in the French Quarter. When she resisted the magical gift offered to her inside, Lilliane was endowed with eternal youth and startling supernatural powers, but the ability to experience and receive romantic love was removed from her forever. When Lilliane meets a young woman who seems poised to make the same mistake she did years before, she becomes determined to stop her, but that will mean revealing her truth to a stranger. Will Lilliane';s story provide Laney with the courage she needs to open her heart to the kind of true love only magic can reveal?
